| PREPARING YOUR DATABASE FOR HOSTING
You can host a database on our servers for a variety of methods of access.
- FileMaker access only.
- Instant Web Publishing (IWP) for browser access.
- Custom Web Publishing (CWP) access. (requires a web site)
- Or a combination of all three.
ODBC/JDBC is another method not covered here. Its use is for advanced developers and documentation is provided elsewhere.
The most important concern for you and us is security. If you haven't done so yet please do the following:
- Add a password for the administrative/master account.
- Change the default user name to something other than Admin.
- Set up new user accounts. Do not share the master account.
- Set up what access each type of user has using Privilege Sets. FileMaker, IWP and CWP.
- Disable auto login within the File menu and File Options.
To begin go to the File menu. Under the submenu Manage, choose Accounts & Privileges. Due to the complexity of the settings you should review your manual. Chapter 6 of the FileMaker Pro 11 User's Guide will get you started.
SHARING SETTINGS
The next step is to enable sharing. This must be set locally on your computer before sending the database file to the server. Here's the steps separated by access type.
FILEMAKER ONLY ACCESS
- Open your database.
- Go to the File menu, Sharing submenu, and choose FileMaker Network.
- Select your database listed under "Currently open files".
- Choose "All users" on the right side of the list.
- Click OK.
INSTANT WEB PUBLISHING ACCESS
- Open your database.
- Go to the File menu, Sharing submenu, and choose Instant Web Publishing.
- Select your database listed under "Currently open files.
- Choose "All users" on the right side of the list.
- Click OK.
CUSTOM WEB PUBLISHING
- Open your database.
- Go to the File menu, Manage submenu, and choose Accounts & Privileges.
- Create a new account for your database connection.
- Choose the privilege set. Usually Data Entry Only.
- Choose the Extended Privileges tab.
- If a set does not exists for fmxml or fmphp (depending on your development language) create one and presumably set it to Data Entry Only.
Now you are ready to send your database to our MacUSA.net servers. Visit to get started.
